Rush Barnett is a designer-maker based in South London. He started designing homeware products in a range of mediums, showing a recent interest in using various casting techniques to create hostware imbued with concepts from the world of social psychology. Barnett's work often concerns retrospective indigenous design and its application in solving problems in the contemporary world, specifically regarding domestic hospitality and the expectations that exist in social scenarios.
Bacchanalia '24 is a series of wine drinking vessels that obscure the face when lifted to the mouth, inspired by Symposiums from Grecian classical civilisation, where the elite would gather and discuss politics, relationships and art. Guests were scrutinised for their social conduct and drinking behaviour. The masks in this series portray various grotesque emotions associated with excessive drunkenness, encouraging viewers to reflect on British drinking culture.
